North of Rovaniemi, in Sinettä, it’s a different world. The landscape opens into snow and vast horizons — trees bent under the weight of fresh snow, frozen lakes stretching out like white plains. This is the heart of the Lapland backcountry, and this private tour is built to take you deep into it.

It’s just your group out there — up to 6 snowmobiles, your pace. The day is about the connection between you, the machine, and the landscape. Once you find your rhythm, you stop thinking about the controls and start focusing on the view.

Standard start 09:00; other times by arrangement. After the briefing and kitting out — thermal overalls, boots, helmet and gloves — the first stretch is the training section, getting a feel for the throttle and the brake. Then the trail opens up: forest, open marshlands, and frozen lakes where you really feel the sense of freedom. Your guide reads the day as it goes, finding the best spots for that day’s conditions.

Around midday we stop at Arctic SnowHotel for lunch — a cozy indoor restaurant with an open fire in the middle, where you can take the gear off and sit down in the warmth. The menu has usually soup, salads, pasta dishes or burgers, with reindeer, salmon, chicken and vegetarian options. The afternoon ride takes a different path, often climbing to higher ground for long views. By 16:00–17:00 you’re back at base, having covered 70 to 100 kilometres of backcountry trail.

If you have a specific interest — drone footage, fresh snow, a particular kind of terrain — mention it when you book or as we go, and we’ll work it in. We have a 360 camera, drone and professional camera available for guests at no extra charge.

We provide everything you need for the ride except your own base layers. Show up warm underneath, and we handle the rest.

How to book?

The price is per person and goes down as your group gets bigger — the more of you, the less each person pays. Start by choosing your date and entering the number of people in your group. The price updates automatically as you add persons.

The price includes a shared snowmobile: two riders per machine. If anyone wants their own snowmobile, add the single snowmobile upgrade at checkout for each rider who wants one. Free pickup and the optional liability waiver are chosen at checkout too.

Drivers must be 20 or over and hold a valid Category B driving licence. Anyone 15 or over can join as a passenger on a shared snowmobile. There is no passenger sleigh on this route, so younger children can’t join this tour.

PolarMax is a small family business located in Sinettä, 20 km north of Rovaniemi. The backcountry here is our home. We’ve spent our lives roaming these trails, training drivers and guiding people through Arctic nature. We started PolarMax because we wanted to share something we genuinely love — riding through real Lapland wilderness, far from the tourist routes. The feeling of discovery, adventure, and friendship.

Our snowmobiles are BRP Lynx Ranger, manufactured 20 minutes from where we ride. Stable, powerful, and built for Arctic conditions. Heated grips and boot warmers for the driver; heated seat and handlebar grips for the passenger. Comfortable suspension, modern fuel-injected 4-stroke engine and built to last.
