Tucked away beside a shimmering lake, deep in the forest of Finnish Lapland, lies our private sauna-cottage, waiting for you to partake in one of our fondest cultural customs. You’re not just showing up to enjoy the sauna, though, as this time you’ll be a part of the actual process of preparing this magical experience! Carry fresh water from the clear, arctic lake to wash with and to throw on the sauna stones to make löyly (steam) with, gather the logs to heat up the sauna, and prepare together with your professional guide your own one-of-a-kind sauna experience! While we wait for the wood-heated sauna to get ready and reach the perfect temperature, your guide will teach you about Finnish traditions and share the history behind the Finnish sauna, intertwined with legends and Lappish folktales of old. Breathe in deeply and relax in the sauna, gently strike your back with the vihta (birch whisk) to stimulate circulation and fill the air with the soft scent of birch leaves, and enjoy the transcendental healing benefits of this centuries-old custom. Take a refreshing dip into the lake and enjoy the arctic summer evening with your loved ones and friends, enjoying sausages and drinks by the fire after your sauna.
