Accessible Nature Trails
Accessible Nature Trails
We recommend using the Government’s Luontoon.fi service, which gathers information on outdoor destinations, routes, and hiking services in Finland. The site provides detailed descriptions of nature trails and available facilities, such as toilets, water points, and rest areas.
Routes in the Luontoon service are also classified by accessibility, such as accessible and demanding accessible routes. This information is particularly helpful for people with reduced mobility and for those using baby strollers. The accessibility descriptions include images of the locations and detailed information on route surfaces, inclines, shelters, campfire sites, and signs used in the area.
In the Luontoon service, a demanding accessible nature trail is categorised as a nature trail where an assistant and a device intended for or facilitating movement in nature may be needed for moving along the route.
The City of Rovaniemi’s Etiäinen service also brings together nature and cultural sites in the area. It includes routes and destinations across Rovaniemi, with accessible routes clearly marked, as well as sites suitable for families with children.

Getting around Rovaniemi can vary significantly by season. In winter, snow and changing weather conditions may affect outdoor mobility, especially for people using mobility aids such as wheelchairs. Streets in the city centre are cleared of excessive snow when possible, but because weather conditions can change quickly, it is not always possible to guarantee full accessibility on all routes.

Medical Emergencies
If you need medical attention, it is recommended that you contact one of the private healthcare providers in Rovaniemi. You can find the instructions on how to do so in the link below. Visitors are advised to have comprehensive travel insurance that covers medical treatment and any unexpected emergencies.
If you take regular medication, please ensure you bring enough to last for the duration of your stay, including a small extra supply in case of delays or unexpected changes to your travel plans. It is also recommended to carry a copy of your prescription.
For urgent care, the emergency department at Lapland Central Hospital is available. Before going to the emergency room, you must first call 116 117 (without the country code) to be directed to the appropriate level of care.
In case of a life-threatening emergency, call 112 immediately. This is Finland’s national emergency number for ambulance, fire, and police services.
If you need to purchase over-the-counter medications, personal care items, or other pharmacy products that do not require a prescription, pharmacies in Finland are called apteekki. Look for signs that say “Apteekki” when searching for a pharmacy.
- Sampo Pharmacy is located right in the city centre, a 2-minute walk away from Rovaniemi Tourist Information, at Rovakatu 28.
