The Arctic Garden is a garden maintained by the University of Lapland, located in front of the Arktikum Science Centre and Museum, by the beach. The seven-hectare Arctic Garden is one of the most beautiful parks in Rovaniemi and during the Northern Lights season it is one of the most popular places to admire the Aurora Borealis a walking distance from the center of Rovaniemi.
During summer, the Arctic Garden offers a small, quiet sandy beach for a dip under the Midnight Sun, and the most spectacular place to photograph the Midnight Sun. The vegetation of the park is a feast for northern plant species and local art is also on display. The Arctic Science Center has placed copies of runestones in the garden, and the artwork “Nätti-Jussi” by Risto Immonen, a local sculptor and artist, can be seen in the Arctic Garden.
