Amethyst mine on top of Lampivaara hill is located in the immediate vicinity of the Luosto recreation centre, in the middle of Lapland’s beautiful landscape surrounded by Pyhä-Luosto national park. The mine at the top of the hill introduces you to the fascinating world of gemstones. You will hear stories told for millennia, and get to dig for your own lucky amethyst, that has waited 2000 million years to be found.
During summer you can hike or ride a bike/fatbike to Lampivaara, admiring the beautiful and ancient forest. Lampivaara café is the starting point to the Amethyst Mine tours and besides the tickets, you can enjoy delicious doughnuts, pastries and refreshments. Outside the café you’ll find a nice lean-to where you can grill sausages or eat your own packed lunch. During winter you can ski, walk with snowshoes, ride a fatbike or take the amethystpendolino ride to the Amethyst Mine. The Amethyst Mine is located in the middle of a national park, so cars are not allowed.
The Amethyst Mine is located in Pyhä-Luosto which is approx. 1,5 hour drive from Rovaniemi. If you don’t have your own car, no worries, take the skibus which transports people between Rovaniemi-Luosto-Pyhä.
The Amethyst Mine is open for visitors all year round, check the opening hours from www.amethystmine.fi
