Live stream: The Grand Opening of Christmas Season 19th of November 2022 at 4 PM

The Grand Opening of Christmas Season at the Santa Claus Village is an annual celebration honouring the Christmas traditions of sharing Christmas spirit and good will. This year the event takes place at 4 PM (UTC +2) on Saturday 19th of November at the central square of Santa Claus Village on the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi.  You can join the celebration from your home by watching it online here. The musical Christmas performances take the audience into the merry moods of Christmas and Winter. The traditional Christmas Opening culminates in Santa’s arrival and speech – what does Santa want to tell us this year?

LIVE: Attention! Fashion & Music event for peace 27th of March 5:30 pm local time (UTC +2)

This year, the closing moments of the Arctic Design Week is a matter of peace. The admission free live & livestream event is a magical light show including fashion and music featuring the international kantele star Ida Elina and The Bilebändi accompanied by Mr. Lordi.

The public has the opportunity to support the victims of the war in Ukraine through the Finnish Red Cross, Unicef and through campaign operated by local ukrainian community in Rovaniemi. The help is channeled through fundraising and chance to donate valuable items for Ukraine.

 

Attention! -konsertti välittää maailmalle Rovaniemeltä rauhan viestin

Tänä vuonna Arctic Design Weekin päätöshetkissä ollaan myös rauhan asialla. Maksuttomaan tapahtumaan voit osallistua livenä paikan päällä tai livestreamin välityksellä. Muoti- ja musiikkipainotteinen show on näyttävä valoshow ja mm. musiikista vastaa kansainvälisesti tunnettu kanteletähti Ida Elina sekä The Bilebändi Mr. Lordin kera.

Yleisöllä on mahdollisuus tukea tapahtumassa Ukrainan sodan uhreja SPR:n, Unicefin ja paikallisen Ukrainalaisyhteisön operoiman kampanjan kautta. Auttaa voit tekemällä rahalahjoituksen tai lahjoittamalla Ukrainalle juuri nyt tärkeitä keräystuotteita paikan päällä tapahtumassa.

On 23rd of December Santa Claus will begin his annual journey around the world, from snowy Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. And for the first time ever, we will share with you a short film of the moment before Christmas.

This wonderful short film takes us all on a magical journey to Lapland, Rovaniemi on the Arctic Circle. What has Santa got in store for us this year, and what is the true meaning of Christmas? See Santa take off with His reindeer pulled sleigh when Santa Claus is on His way is released on 23rd of December at 7 pm local time (UTC +2).

WARNING! THIN ICE! Walking on the frozen river in the town centre of Rovaniemi is life-threatening. The City of Rovaniemi and the Lapland Rescue Department warn people about thin ice on the river, especially in the town centre of Rovaniemi. People have been observed standing on the frozen Kemijoki River at the city centre area, although the ice cover is very thin, so walking on the frozen river can easily be fatal. “If you see someone on the frozen river, they must be immediately instructed to head for land”, states Riku Mäenpää, Safety Instructor at the Lapland Rescue Department. The ice may also be very weak in places outside the town centre, as there have been no prolonged periods of below-freezing temperatures. The City began setting up fences which have warning signs about thin ice written in many different languages. Fencing will also be installed close to the Konttinen Summer Theatre to prevent people from sledging down onto the thin ice of the river. The safari companies will start building a snow barrier from Hotel Pohjanhovi upstream past the Lumberjack Candle Bridge. The purpose of the snow barrier is to prevent people from riding snowmobiles too close to the shore. Stay safe while visiting Rovaniemi!
