Rovaniemi 20th Anniversary Celebration

The program is in Finnish. This free celebration, open to everyone, will look back on our shared journey from the new city’s early years to the present day through music, discussions, stories, and shared memories.

The program features music, sing-alongs, circus performances, an audience-participation Kahoot! trivia quiz, and a video greeting from Rovaniemi’s children about their hometown.

The celebration will also feature speeches by prominent figures from Rovaniemi. Tanja Poutiainen will share her experiences as a Rovaniemi native living abroad, and Maj-Lis Erola will reflect on what it means to be from Rovaniemi in an interview with Hannu Friman. The music will be provided by Kadri Joamets and Seitakuoro, as well as Jaakko Laitinen and Kunnan Pojat, and we’ll all sing together to close out the celebration.

The highlight of the evening will be a panel discussion titled “When the New Rovaniemi Was Born—20 Years in One City,” featuring Liisa Ansala, Heikki Autto, Juhani Juuruspolvi, Esko Lotvonen, Ari Ruotsalainen, Sakari Trög, Ulla-Kirsikka Vainio, and Susanna Viitala. Eemeli Kajula will moderate the panel.
