The new Spa and Health Clinic at Octola Private Wilderness in Lapland is complete and ready to welcome guests. Octola, located in Finnish Lapland and also conveniently 25 minutes to Rovaniemi international airport. Octola is owned by Luxury Action, pioneering private travel in the Arctic and Nordic region.

One of the world’s foremost private luxury estates, Octola is the first five-star accommodation facility in the Arctic and Nordics with a negative carbon footprint, firmly recognizing Luxury Action’s pioneering approach to innovative, sustainable yet uber-luxury experiential tourism in the region. The Spa and Health Clinic were conceived and constructed in line with this sustainable approach.

Wellness, massage and treatment room facilities are also part of the Spa. Two sauna options are available: a cozy log-lined indoor steam room and an enchanting outdoor winter sauna built from beautifully illuminated ice blocks. There is also a separate, compact cabin for fireside relaxation and yoga sessions.

“I conceived Octola in line with my philosophy of luxury in Lapland,” says Janne Honkanen, Owner and Founder of Luxury Action. “That philosophy is to be secluded, far from the crowds, and to be at one with nature, but with access to every conceivable private service and comfort. For Octola to offer a full range of high-end facilities, the availability of a top-class spa was always a key aspect of my vision. I’m a firm believer in the physical and spiritual healing power of nature, and Octola has been designed to provide the inspiration and relaxation that this unique wilderness location can provide.”

Guests at Octola will now have the opportunity to relax in three different pool settings in the Spa. The innovative, Finnish-designed, temperature-adjustable ‘cold pool’ can simulate the traditional and wellbeing-enhancing avanto swimming experience of dipping in a hole in a frozen lake or river between sauna bathing sessions. A custom-built high-end swimming pool features a resistingcurrent function of the kind used by Olympic athletes and its floor-to-ceiling glass windows offer fabulous views across the Lapland wilderness. An outdoor hot tub with jacuzzi completes the range of bathing options.

Octola Private Wilderness was built using sustainable and authentic local Lapp and Sami traditions and contemporary design and is comprised of a ten-bedroomed Private Lodge and a twobedroomed luxury Villa. Set in 400+ secluded hectares of pristine Arctic forest, Octola offers unrivalled privacy, top-end design, world-class service and access to a wide variety of on-site facilities, fully-bespoke activities and experiences, wellness facilities and prime Northern Lights viewing.

In a study by sustainable technology consultant AFRY, released on 1/2/21, Octola has been identified as having a significant negative carbon footprint. Impressive eco-credentials include the use of fully green energy: wind-generated electricity, geothermal heating and drinking water directly from the property’s own spring. Operational aspects such as petrol-engine activities and in-house laundry are closely monitored and designed to create as little environmental impact as possible and there is major emphasis on the eco-provenance and sustainability of the locally-sourced food prepared in-house. The traditionally-managed surrounding wilderness, including forest and wetland, provides a vast ‘carbon sink’ effect, offsetting the minimal carbon emissions.
