Changed by Rovaniemi – Proposal at the Arctic Circle 1/7
In our new “Changed by Rovaniemi”- blog series, we share unique stories from travelers of Rovaniemi. We asked, what makes Lapland so special to them, why they have fallen in love with Lapland, and what makes some of them return time after time. Have a look at the story of Australian Jayde, who got proposed at the Arctic Circle.
“We were there for five nights in November. We decided to go to Finland as we wanted to see the northern lights – it’s been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember.“
As a huge fan of Christmas, Jayde was staying with her partner in one of the red cabins of the Santa Claus Holiday Village. They both knew from early on that they wanted to get married.
“Once we started planning the trip in February, I think it started to cross my partner’s mind that he would propose while we were there.”
Originally Jayde’s husband was planning to propose her after a reindeer ride in Santa Claus Village. However, at the time it did not feel like the right moment. After the ride, the couple met Santa Claus and went back to their cabin close by. They put their Christmas sweaters on, took some photos under the snowy trees, and went for a walk to the forest. On the way, they also saw the first snowfall since they had arrived.
“I turned around because I didn’t see him next to me – but there he was, on one knee in the snow! He said these sweet things and asked me to marry him. I was so excited and had tears in my eyes! We got some photos and then walked back, and he said to me ‘So you didn’t say yes?’, and I said, ‘Obviously it’s a yes, I’m wearing the ring!”
Later on, Jayde and her husband went to enjoy cocktails to celebrate. During their trip to Europe, they also visited England, Paris, and Amsterdam – Rovaniemi, Finland was their last stop before returning to Melbourne.
