Galleries
Rovaniemi is the city of visual arts and that's why there are quite many galleries compared to size of the city. Visit in Gallery Napa, galleries of university Valo, Kajo and Katve, Varjo gallery and Lapponica hall. Read more.
Cinema
There is a Maxim movie theatre in Sampokeskus, in the middle of the city. Check the movies from web. In Finland foreign movies are not dubbed but there are subtitles in Finnish and Swedish.
Library
Rovaniemi Library is also provincial library of Lapland. It is located in Administrative and Cultural centre designed by Alvar Aalto. One can also use internet by reserving a time on one of the clients' computers. Read more.
Rovaniemi Theatre
Rovaniemi Theatre - The Regional Theatre of Lapland is the northernmost professional theatre in Finland. It is located in a theatre building called the Lappia House designed by Alvar Aalto. In addition to its program on both the main hall and the studio scene, the theatre has a particular regional audience: The aim of the theatre is to visit every municipality in Lapland with guest performances once a year. The profile of the theatre includes giving many premieres by Finnish writers, especially those familiar with the north.

Konttinen summer theatre
Konttinen summer theatre operates by professional and amateur actors and it is the only summer theatre in Rovaniemi. By attendance it is one of the most significant cultural and tourism events. Plays are aimed to families and the season is from June to beginning of August. Plays are in Finnish. Ask more from Rovaniemi Tourist Information.
Lapland chamber orchestra
Lapland chamber orchestra is founded in 1972 when Rovaniemi Orchestra started. In 1982 it became Rovaniemi City Orchestra and it called Lapland Chamber Orchestra. There are 16 musicians in orchestra. The Student Theatre of Lapland
The Student Theatre of Lapland is an innovative amateur theatre where students of different fields can make theatre happen together. It produces annually 5 – 8 premieres, some lighter cabarets and courses. Improvisation has grown especially popular in recent years. Both in theatre and improvisation the student theatre has won competitions in Finland and abroad. Read more.
Provincial museum of Lapland
Provincial museum is located in Arktikum, close to city centre. The present permanent exhibition of museum is called Northern ways and it is opened in 2003. There is also a temporary exhibition. In same building with Provincial museum operates Arctic Centre. Read more.

Lapland Forestry Museum
The forestry tradition of Lapland is exhibited at the Forestry Museum of Lapland. The museum area features numerous real logging huts and interesting insight into the past – but not forgotten – logging tradition. The Forestry Museum of Lapland is open to public during summer. The museum located in Pöykkölä is run by the Forestry Museum Association of Lapland (Lapin metsämuseoyhdistys ry). Read more.
Rovaniemi Local History Museum
The Rovaniemi Local History Museum consists of four original buildings of the Pöykkölä site and thirteen buildings transferred from the Rovaniemi region.The buildings as well as the large number of exhibits illustrates life in Rovaniemi at the turn of the century,more than hundred years ago. The Rovaniemi Local History Museum is open to public in the summer.The museum is operated by the Local Heritage Association, Rovaniemen Totto (Kotiseutuyhdistys Rovaniemen Totto ry). Read more.
Rovaniemi Art Museum
The Rovaniemi Art Museum is situated in the former post office vehicle depot, which was restored by architect Juhani Pallasmaa. The museum features the Finnish modern art collection of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. The special exhibitions present different art trends with North being the central theme. Read more. |
